Juvenile Law

Mobile AL Truancy Attorney Christine Hernandez Baldwin County Alabama School Law Lawyer

Defense in Truancy Cases Brought Against Students or Parents

Local district attorneys are aggressively charging both minors and their parents with crimes related to truancy.

Students can be adjudicated delinquent if they miss too much school.

If a child is truant or considered a disciplinary problem at school, parents can be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

I am one of the few attorneys in lower Alabama who handles truancy cases for both students and parents.

If you are facing criminal or juvenile delinquency charges related to truancy, contact me today to schedule an appointment.

I am Alabama juvenile law attorney Christine Hernandez. I was a teacher for 14 years before I became a lawyer, and I have spent my entire career working with young people.

My background gives me insight into the value of helping my clients solve the real problem — not just the legal problem. I will give you the legal support your case requires, and work with you to get any additional support and treatment you need outside of the courtroom.

Juvenile Dependency and Legal Paternity

Juveniles need adults in their lives — both emotionally and legally. No matter how mature they may be, the law requires someone to have the legal authority to make decisions on their behalf.

I work with grandparents, foster parents, step-parents and others to help them obtain guardianship over loved ones who are under 18.

I also work with people who are seeking to obtain a legal paternity degree in order to set up a child support order and rights to custody and visitation.

Juvenile Delinquency and Criminal Defense of Minors

Juvenile delinquency is essentially criminal defense of minors. I represent young people in juvenile delinquency hearings, in transfer hearings to determine if they should be charged as adults, and in adult criminal courts:

  • Criminal mischief, such as toilet-papering a tree
  • "Boom box" tickets
  • Drug and alcohol offenses, including underage drinking
  • Theft and property offenses, burglary and robbery
  • Gang involvement
  • Gun violations, including weapons at school
  • Probation violations
  • Murder

I also handle civil cases where a minor is the plaintiff, such as lawsuits where a young person's rights have been violated.
